International Student Services

Unlike many large universities, Ursuline does not have a centralized International Student Services Office. Rather, knowledgeable professionals are integrated throughout the campus who can assist you with everything from orientation, to healthcare decisions, to maintaining your immigration status. Because of this model, international students are fully integrated into the life of the campus.

Community among international students is also intentional on campus. With an international students organization and excursions to events with international students from other Cleveland area colleges and universities, you’re sure to develop lasting relationships with other students who share your experience.

Living in Cleveland and Northeast Ohio

Cleveland is an outstanding city for you to experience all that US culture has to offer. Situated about four hours from Niagara falls, six hours from Chicago and Washington DC, and eight hours from New York City, Philadelphia, PA, and Nashville, TN weekend trips are a must.

We’re pretty partial to staying right here in Cleveland, though, and know you’ll love the arts, culture, sporting events, and dining that the city has to offer. Head about nine miles (15 km) west from campus and you’ll find University Circle, Cleveland’s arts and culture hub, with the Cleveland Museum of Art and Severance Hall among other museums, gardens, universities, and more. Continue down the Euclid corridor by car or bus toward downtown and you’ll pass through the Cleveland Clinic campus – a world class health organization and top employer of our graduates. Once downtown, take a selfie below the outdoor chandelier at Playhouse Square – the largest theatre district in the US outside of New York City. While downtown, check out the trendy East Bank of the flats, cheer on the Cavs or Indians, and explore the historic art and architecture. Keep heading west into Cleveland’s neighborhoods and you’ll find the oldest public market in the US, Lake Erie beaches, more amazing restaurants, and Cleveland Hopkins International airport.

Housing and Dining

Living in one of Ursuline’s three Residence Halls is a once in a lifetime experience. While being close to your classes is excellent, the benefits of living on campus at Ursuline extend far beyond a short commute. Living on campus, you’ll have access to Ursuline’s brand new state-of-the-art fitness center and all the campus events and activities. A brief walk over to the Pilla dining hall gives you access to locally sourced, chef-inspired dining that is fully customizable for your taste and diet. Getting involved with your fellow campus residents means building friendships, study groups, and community, and a staff of student Resident Advisors by your side means you’ll never face an issue alone. Choosing to live on campus at Ursuline College is more than choosing a place to live—it’s engaging in an unforgettable living-learning experience and building lifelong friendships.

There are certain requirements to live on campus, which are detailed on our Residence Life site. If you will be bringing dependent family members with you to the United States, we’ll work with you to strategize other housing arrangements as Ursuline’s residence halls are just for students. Whether you plan to live on campus or off, contact your Admission Counselor for help choosing your home away from home.

Driving and Transportation

If you will be driving during your time in the United States, or plan to purchase a motor vehicle, we recommend that you get an Ohio driver’s license. While Ursuline is proximate to a major metropolitan area with public transportation, it is much easier to navigate the area and the region with your own car. If you do not plan to drive while living in the US and need transportation when the Cleveland RTA system is not sufficient, we recommend Uber or Lyft.

How to apply for a driver’s license

If you are a first-time driver you’ll purchase a temporary permit package, provide identification and SSN if assigned, proof of legal status – passport, I-94 and I-20, pay a fee, take a written exam, vision screening, a driving test, and maneuverability test.

If you have a driver’s license from anther state you’ll present your driver’s license, provide proof of SSN if assigned, take a written exam, vision screening and pay a fee.

More information and details available from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
