Since the minimum degree required to become an Art Therapist is a master’s degree, your undergraduate coursework in Art Therapy will build a foundation for graduate study. After earning your Master’s degree in Counseling and Art Therapy from Ursuline, you’ll be eligible for licensure as both a professional clinical mental health counselor and credentialing as an Art Therapist. Our graduates go on to work in a wide variety of clinical, educational, and human service institutions such as hospitals, children’s agencies, mental health and counseling centers, correctional facilities, hospice care and wellness centers, just to name a few.

The median salary of an Art Therapist is $55,900, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and ranges from $30,000 to $80,000 annually (American Art Therapy Association).

If you choose to go right to work after earning your BA, you’ll be ready to hold any position that uses art media in the service of people. Positions providing direct care in children’s treatment agencies, nursing homes, or assisting therapists in a variety of healthcare, residential and community-based agencies will be accessible to you at this point in your education.

Ursuline’s bridge program allows you to take graduate classes in your senior year, accelerating your path to your master’s degree in Ursuline’s Counseling and Art Therapy program.

Art Therapy majors complete field placements in over 150 organizations. As an undergraduate student, you’ll be required to complete at least one 75-hour internship, and once you’ve transitioned to the graduate program in Counseling and Art Therapy, you’ll complete 850 hours of clinical work based on your area of interest. Opportunities outside the classroom include The Gestalt Institute, Jung Cleveland, the Psychoanalytic Institute, the Art Therapy Studio, and all of Cleveland’s major medical centers.

Graduates of our program are agency director, board members for state and national organizations, educators, and entrepreneurs. Some of our most recent Master’s graduates are employed as Art Therapists and Counselors in the following organizations:
