The Humanities major brings together all the best of this liberal arts college, and packages it into one perfect, enlightening, program of study.

When you study the humanities at Ursuline, you’ll gain a broad and integrative view of the arts, music, drama, foreign languages, history, philosophy, literature, and religion. This interdisciplinary program allows you to capture all your interests in a single program. Since you have so much flexibility in your course selections, it’s perfect for you if you are interested in many subjects or want to weave together prior coursework from a variety of fields into a single major. Many transfer students love this major because of it’s flexibility. It’s also a perfect foundation for graduate level study in any humanities field.

The art of being human/humane is the focus of this major. This focus enhances almost every possible career choice, whether education, business, government, human services, journalism, communication, or entertainment.

You’ll take the following classes, in addition to your Ursuline Core Curriculum, (you can select two courses to count for both the Core and your Major) to fulfil the requirements for a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities. Half of your classes must be taken at the 300+ level.

  • One Art class
  • One drama class
  • One American Literature course in English
  • One British Literature course in English
  • One American history course
  • One World history course
  • Two Modern Language courses
  • One Music course
  • Two Philosophy courses
  • Two Religious Studies courses
  • Humanities 490 – Senior Project

To minor in Humanities, take the following classes:

  • One Art class
  • One English Literature course
  • One American or World history course
  • One Philosophy course
  • One Religious Studies course
  • Humanities 315 – Reading Seminar
  • Two of the following: a drama class a modern Language class, a music class
