Pre-Medicine/Pre-Professional

Pre-Medicine/Pre-Professional

Thinking of studying medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, optometry and veterinary medicine? Ursuline has a long history of preparing future medical professionals.

When you’re thinking of applying to medical school or another professional healthcare graduate program, building a broad academic/extracurricular resume is the best thing you can do to be competitive in a very selective graduate admission process. Luckily, building well-rounded leaders is Ursuline’s claim-to-fame.

Academically, you’ll gain exposure to the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and fine arts through the Ursuline Core Curriculum and take a sequence of prerequisites for admission to graduate/professional school, often while majoring in biology, chemistry, or biochemistry. You’ll have the opportunity to conduct your own research, right here on campus, in our renovated lab spaces or off campus with Cleveland’s world-class healthcare systems like the Cleveland Clinic. You’ll practice presenting your findings at our Student Research Symposium, too. You’ll build leadership skills, engage in service, and round out your resume by fully participating in campus life. All of this, taken together, produced a 100% medical school admission rate among applicants from Ursuline in recent years.

Activities which demonstrate leadership, organization and communication skills, volunteer service, and research experience are most desirable. In order to make a well-informed career decision, premedical students should also seek firsthand exposure to the field of medicine and become knowledgeable about the current issues now facing the profession.
